Solid Waste Management

The world is facing huge environmental issue since last couple of years majorly due the huge production, mis-management and distribution of waste materials such as plastic waste, tyre waste, and agriculture waste. The waste materials have such huge and vast environmental effects that are certainly causing depletion of breathing air quality, rise in global temperature, earth erosion, flood and other environmental calamities also including it is a crucial factor for spread and germination of several deadly diseases. The lack of scientific involvement in the waste management scheme availed vast section of the society get affected by dumping and landfilling of the waste materials.  So, there is an urgency required in scientific involvement for the treatment of waste material such as waste tyre, waste plastics and the agricultural waste. We have been working on the upcycling of these wastes using a very efficient greener technique, which would not only capable to manage these wastes, but somewhat gives, an important contribution to increase the economical growth of the nation. We innovated the technology which can convert waste plastic into fuel and wonder material Graphene simultaneously for the first time. My research group developed waste recycling machine SWAYAMBHU WRM 2021 for the great service of our proud Nation. The machine was successfully installed at PRS-Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Centre, Department of Chemistry, DSB campus, Kumaun University. At this moment, we are getting about 15-20% raw graphene and (25-40%) crude oil from waste plastic through this machine. This breakthrough offers an effective way to deal with the pervasive problem of waste plastic and in addition provides an opportunity to create huge revenues by creating fuel and graphene. I am very hopeful that this innovation is really the one this Nation was looking for. This kind of upcyling of waste plastics to graphene and its other by-products not only gives it a more economical value, but it also helps every citizen of India to enjoy its charming properties. Thus, the overall project seems to be a cost effective and greener technique for  sustainable and environmentally friendly waste management to enhance the revolution of “Clean and Green India”.
